Function

They are non-leak in the long term (internationally patented devices). They are typically filled with thick liquid rubber and gas (nitrogen).

Semi-active (to enable seismic isolation)

PermaRockingIsolators enable seismic rocking isolation of mid- to high-rise buildings (>7 stories) and generally of slender structures having rocking behaviour (rather than shear behaviour). PermaRockingIsolators are installed under the central core, and are connected to each other with pipes which include proportional valves that control the flow within the pipes during a seismic event, while normally they do not allow any flow. The setting of the proportional valves during a seismic event, and therefore the flow between the isolators, is adjusted in real-time. Appropriate sensors detect the dynamic rocking motion of the core and provide real-time feedback, enabling adaptive AI-driven (learning based) control of the proportional valve (and of the flow within the pipes) achieving to minimize the rocking motion of the core.

Dual function (also as dampers)

In addition to enabling seismic rocking isolation during seismic events, normally PermaRockingIsolators function as (active) base rocking dampers, damping wind-imposed vibrations of mid- to high-rise buildings. They are generally more effective than heavy mass dampers on the top.

Standard sizes

Standard sizes (adjacent table) are for steel with yield strength 350 MPa. For lighter configurations higher strength steel may be used. The maximum service load is in accordance with the European Standards.

Custom

Custom sizes can be built to suit your application.
